The new interchange is part of a major upgrade of the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway.

The Neve Ilan Interchange on Road 1 - the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway - opened late last night. The new junction allows direct access to Neve Ilan, Kiryat Yearim (Telshe Stone) and Abu Ghosh for drivers coming from Tel Aviv, instead of needing to continue to the Hemed interchange, and then return back.

The new interchange is part of the major upgrade of Road 1 between Sha'ar Hagai and Jerusalem, which is due to be completed by 2017, at a cost of NIS 2.5 billion. The Neve Ilan Interchange cost NIS 200 million.

At the inauguration of the new interchange, Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz said that the next section of the project, a third lane in each direction between the Shoresh and Hemed interchanges, will open next month.
