The global multi-rotor drone market has been booming over the past five years. Companies manufacturing these drones for non-military purposes are selling more than 1.5 million of them for a total of over $3 billion. The main market for multi-rotor drones is currently the consumer market, but most of the companies in the field want to enter the commercial market, where the business potential is much greater. The principal challenge for these companies is to supply a drone capable of performing a task, while saving or generating money.
Startup Percepto is concentrating on precisely this point. The company is developing technology and applications, based on computer vision, that enable the drones to perform complex tasks completely independently without an operator.
Percepto has developed a module connectable to almost any commercial drone that functions as an improved "brain." The company has developed a light operating system on this module that can be used to run complex vision applications and to control these applications in real time. The set of applications completed by Percepto includes flight applications, such as avoiding obstacles, precise location for measuring purposes, and precise delivery of the payload. The task applications completed by Percepto include identification of specific objects, such as solar panels and electrical and cellular poles, and spotting and analyzing defects in various objects. Percepto has also completed the development of remote control and information analysis systems.
