This is the first time the Israel Postal Company has ever been fined.

The Ministry of Communications has fined Israel Postal Company Ltd. NIS 120,000 for late delivery of parcels. In a letter to Postal Company senior VP Yigal Levy, the Ministry writes that the reason for the fines was an audit it conducted at the company's central processing office in Tel Aviv and at the Rehovot branch, which discovered excessive quantities of piled up parcels that had not been delivered to their destinations.

This the first time that the Ministry of Communications has fined the Postal Company, a significant change in its policy. Delays in postal deliveries and questionable service by the company have been a key issue accompanying the reform to be implemented at the company, which is designed to solve these problems.

Postal Company is a government company, so that the money is remaining in the state treasury in any case. In the near future, however, an investor is due to enter the company, in which case financial sanctions for license violations are something that the company will have to cope with.

Postal Company said in response, "The letter from the Ministry of Communications was received today. We are studying the matter, and will respond directly to the Ministry."
