Despite fierce opposition from Herzliya Municipality, the Committee for National Infrastructures has ruled that the main section of Road 531 will open on Thursday at midnight. Herzliya Municipality insists that traffic in the city will be a nightmare after the new road opens but the Committee for National Infrastructures accepted the viewpoint of Netivei Israel National Roads Company that the new highway will provide more benefit than problems.
The new section opening tomorrow night between the Ra'anana South Interchange on Road 4 and the Herzliya East Interchange (Sderot Yerushalaim) runs parallel to Ra'anana's Ahuza Street and will save drivers the torturous progress through the 15 traffic lights along the city's main thoroughfare.
The next section of Road 531, due to open at the end of 2017, will continue to the new Ayalon Highway, thus linking Road 20 to Road 6.
