Royal Jordanian Airlines renewed its daily flights between Tel Aviv and Amman over the weekend. The company stopped flying to Ben Gurion airport three weeks ago due to Operation Protective Edge.
The decision to renew the scheduled flights was taken by the Jordanian carrier last week. Royal Jordanian Airlines Israel Country Manager Dvora Bruchstein said, "Royal Jordanian never stopped flying to Israel but only suspended flights for safety and security operational reasons. The company does not fly to other cities around the world that are in war situations."
The carriers flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport were stopped on July 23 along with other foreign carriers when a Hamas rocket shot from Gaza landed in Yehud not far from the airport. While most other foreign carriers renewed flights after 48 hours, Royal Jordanian continued the suspension of its Israel flights although carrying on selling tickets from Tel Aviv to global destinations via Amman.
There has been a spate of complaints over the past few weeks that Royal Jordanian had not kept passengers up to date with developments and they had been required to reach Amman via land or by Arkia Airlines Ltd. flights to the Jordanian capital.
Bruchstein said, "The flights stayed in the system for the simple reason that we re-assessed the situation daily and we were awaiting instructions from the insurance company regarding these flights."
