The gap between men and women's salaries in Israel widened in 2014, reversing the trend of recent years, the Central Bureau of Statistics reports. The average salary for a woman in Israel in 2014 was NIS 7,489 per month (NIS 48.8 per hour), and was exactly two thirds of the average male salary of NIS 11,114 (NIS 58.3 per hour). In 2013, the average salary for a woman was 68% of that of a man.
The Central Bureau of Statistics explains that some of the gap between the earnings of men and women is due to the longer hours that men work, 45.2 hours per week on average, compared with 36.7 hours per week for women.
Analyzing the salary figures according to age finds that gross income is highest for people aged 45-54 at an average of NIS 12,021 per month.
Israel's median salary has risen to NIS 6,707, meaning that half of people in the country earn less than this amount. The Central Bureau of Statistics reports that this figure has risen by 1.5% since 2013. The median salary in the Arab sector is NIS 5,496.
