Today, StoreDot Ltd demonstrated the prototype of its ultra-fast-charge battery for the first time, at Microsoft’s Think Next symposium in Tel Aviv. Using this technology, smartphone users will be able to charge their phones in under a minute.
The company produces “nanodots” derived from bio-organic material that, due to their size, have increased electrode capacitance and electrolyte performance, enabling batteries to be charged in minutes.
The multifunctional nanodots are chemically synthesized bio-organic peptide molecules that change the rules of mobile device capabilities. The nanocrystals are made from peptides - short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. StoreDot’s bio-organic devices, such as smartphone displays, provide much more efficient power consumption, and are eco-friendly. While other nanodot and quantum-dot technologies currently in use are heavy metal based and often toxic, StoreDot nanodots are biocompatible.
Based in Ramat Gan, StoreDot bio-organic innovators are developing and commercializing peptide-based technology based on their discovery of self-assembled nanodots of biological origin. The company aims to develop cost-effective, nature-inspired, environmentally friendly technology.
StoreDot Ltd. has received funding from Genesis Angels headed by Kenges Rakishev and Moshe Hogeg.
StoreDot CEO Dr. Doron Myersdorf said, “The fast-charge battery is the result of our focus on commercializing the materials we have discovered. We’re particularly pleased that this innovative nanotechnology, inspired by nature, not only changes the rules of mobile device capabilities, but is also environmentally-friendly.”
StoreDot was one of the most exciting presenters at the Think Next symposium. Though Think Next is a Microsoft event, StoreDot developed and demonstrated its technology on a Samsung S4 device, which uses Google’s Android operating system, and not Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform.
Microsoft Israel responded to the apparent embarrassment, saying: “Microsoft currently develops software for a variety of platforms, for example, Office for iPad. Think Next is a technological innovation event in which a wide range of developments are presented with the aim of celebrating creativity, and the ability to shoot ahead. As such, the event is dedicated to the industry, and allows for a broad range of platforms to be presented.”
