The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) rose today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index rose 0.08% to 1,642.15 points - a new record, the Tel Aviv 100 Index rose 0.28% to 1,432.49 points, but the BlueTech 50 Index fell 0.03% to 377.19 points. Turnover was NIS 351.4 million. The market hit a new record following rises in Europe and on Wall Street on Friday.
In the foreign currency market, futures trading pointed to the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate rising 0.86% from Wednesday's rate before the final Passover holiday to NIS 3.973/$, while the shekel-euro rate fell 1.39% to NIS 4.216/€.
In the bond market, the corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.11%.
In the stock market, Perrigo Company (NYSE:PRGO; TASE:PRGO) rose 22% on a huge trading turnover, following Mylan's $29 billion offer to take over the pharmaceutical company at a 25% premium on the company's share price last week. Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) also benefitted from the mergers and acquisitions buzz gripping the sector, and rose 3.78%, also on a very high trading volume.
These two shares were responsible for the rise on the market with almost every other Tel Aviv 25 share falling. Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) fell 1.44% despite a flattering article in "Bloomberg." Strauss Group Ltd. (TASE:STRS) fell 2.97% for the biggest fall on the Tel Aviv 25 Index and Osem Investments Ltd. (controlled by Nestle SA (SWX:NESN)) (TASE: OSEM) fell 1.89%. Israel Chemicals (TASE: ICL: NYSE: ICL) fell 1.62%.
Real estate companies had a difficult time today. Gazit-Globe Ltd. (NYSE: GZT; TASE: GZT; TSX: GZT) fell 2.29%, Azrieli Group Ltd. (TASE: AZRG) fell 2.21%, and Melisron Ltd. (TASE: MLSR) fell 2.17%.
