Toyota recalls 5,700 cars in Israel

The air bag could become deactivated, causing it to not deploy during a crash.

Toyota is recalling 5,700 cars in Israel to fix flaws with airbags, as part of a global recall of 6.6 million cars. The recall in Israel includes 3,500 Hilux and 2,200 Yaris cars from the 2005-09 models.

The recall is for the driver’s airbag module that is attached to a spiral cable assembly with electrical connections that could become damaged when the steering wheel is turned. If this occurs, the air bag warning lamp will illuminate. In addition, the driver’s air bag could become deactivated, causing it to not deploy in the event of a crash.

"Toyota is not aware of any injuries or fatalities caused by this condition," adds the company. "The repair will take about an hour at Toyota's authorized service centers in Israel at no charge."
