Israel's unemployment rate rose to 6.4% in August, with the rise mostly among women.

Israel's unemployment rate rose to 6.4% in August from 6.2% in July, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today.

The number of people aged 15 and over participating in the workforce was 3.787 million in August. 3.546 million were employed, and 241 thousand unemployed. Among the employed, there were 1.878 million men (compared with 1.873 million in July) and 1.668 million women (compared with 1.675 million in July).

The rate of participation in the workforce was 64.2% in August, unchanged from July. The rate among men was stable, at 69.4%, while the rate among women declined to 59.2% in August from 59.3% in July.

The unemployment rate among men was 6.3% in August, unchanged from July, while the unemployment rate among women rose to 6.4% in August from 6.1% in July.

The number of full-time (35 hours or more per week) employees fell by 0.6%, or 16 thousand people, in August in comparison with July. The number of people in part-time jobs rose by 3%, or 23 thousand. The percentage of employees usually in full-time employment out of the total number of employed people fell to 77.3% in August from 77.9% in July.
