Wed: Strauss leads market losses

Strauss fell on its second quarter results but Israel Discount Bank rose.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 0.33% to 1,374.34 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.22% to 1,235.92 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index fell 1.10% to 304.01 points. Turnover was NIS 975.1 million.

The TASE fell in line with losses on European markets and but Wall Street rose at the opening.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.533/$, up 0.284% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.693/€, down 0.191%.

In the bond market, both long-term Shahar unlinked shekel government bonds and long term Galil CPI-linked government bonds rose. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.16%.

In the stock market, Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) rose 1.44% despite a fall in second quarter profit. Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) fell 0.07%, Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) rose 0.2% and First International Bank of Israel (TASE: FTIN) was down 0.07% despite reporting a rise in profit in the second quarter.

Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) continued its bad run losing 1.8% and its energy exploration units Avner Oil and Gas LP (TASE: AVNR.L) and Delek Drilling Limited Partnership (TASE: DEDR.L) fell 0.87% and 1.54% respectively.

Israel Corporation (TASE: ILCO) fell 2.8% and Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL) was down 0.72%.

There were also big falls from Strauss Group Ltd. (TASE:STRS) which fell 2.95% for the largest drop on the Tel Aviv 25 Index after reporting a fall in revenue and profit, while Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) fell 2.5%.

However, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) rose 1.3% for the largest rise on the Tel Aviv 25 Index on the day's largest trading turnover.
