Wed: Truce boosts TASE

Migdal, Bezeq and Israel Corp. led today's rises but Discount Bank slipped.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) rose today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index rose 1.41% to 1,408.54 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index rose 1.43% to 1,267.93 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index rose 1.27% to 314.65 points. Turnover was NIS 1.393 billion.

The TASE rose strongly boosted by the Gaza cease-fire although European markets were flat as was Wall Street at the opening.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.57/$, down 0.028% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.709/€, down 0.138%.

In the bond market, both long-term Shahar unlinked shekel government bonds and long term Galil CPI-linked government bonds rose. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.16%.

In the stock market, Migdal Insurance and Financial Holdings Ltd. (TASE: MGDL) was up 3.64% for the strongest rise on the Tel Aviv 25 Index after reporting strong second quarter financials. Israel Corporation (TASE: ILCO) was up 3.38% after reporting a narrower loss for the second quarter and its Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL) unit was up 1.33%.

In negative territory, Opko Health Inc. (NYSE: OPK; TASE: OPK) was down 1% for the largest fall on the Tel Aviv 25 Index, and Israel Discount Bank (TASE: DSCT) was down 0.79% on the day's largest trading turnover after Reuben Schron sold his stake in the bank.

Telecoms fared well today with Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) up 3.03%, Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) up 2.44%, and Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) up 2.45%.

Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) gas exploration units Avner Oil and Gas LP (TASE: AVNR.L) and Delek Drilling Limited Partnership (TASE: DEDR.L) rose 2.06% and 3.29% respectively.
