Senior policehave slammed theJustice Ministry's delay in exonerating Ephraim Bracha, who killed himself yesterday.

Senior Israel Police officers expressed criticism last night of the fact that the Ministry of Justice and the Police Internal Investigations Department published statements clearing Deputy Commissioner Ephraim Bracha of corruption allegations made against him, only after Bracha had taken his own life, Walla! News reports. "Why only now has it occurred to them to publish a statement about all Yoav Yitzhak's smears?" the officers asked, referring to a journalist who has been making allegations against Bracha on his website.

Bracha, 55, was found shot dead by his own hand in his car yesterday morning near his home town of Modi'in, following a difficult period for him. Last week, Yoav Yitzhak reported on his News1 website that "Ma'ariv" reporter Aviram Zino had at his own initiative approached the Police Internal Investigations Department and handed over correspondence with Bracha in which the latter supposedly gave him information about the prime minister's residences affair and a criminal investigation of Sara Netanyahu which tuned out to be untrue. The website called Bracha "a danger to the public", even though the Police Internal Investigations Department had never summoned Bracha for questioning, and now says that its investigations uncovered no criminal findings whatsoever.
