Yuval Steinitz to be appointed energy minister

The former finance minister will be charged with the task of restarting stalled development of Israel's gas fields.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been handing out ministerial portfolios to his Likud party colleagues ahead of the government's expected swearing-in ceremony this evening. Yuval Steinitz has been appointed Minister of National Infrastructures Energy and Water Resources. The former finance minister will be charged with the task of restarting stalled development of Israel's gas fields. Steinitz served as minister of intelligence in the outgoing government.

Yisrael Katz will remain Minister of Transport and has also been given the intelligence ministry. Moshe Ya'alon is likely to remain Defense Minister while Silvan Shalom will become Interior Minister and Ofir Akunis has been appointed Minister of Communications. Haim Katz will be Welfare Minister but Gilad Erdan and Miri Regev left meetings with Netanyahu empty handed.
