Alvarion wins contract with Europe's WiMax Telecom

The contract is estimated to be worth a few million dollars.

Wireless broadband solutions and mobile networks developer Alvarion (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) has followed its good second quarter report and rise in share price with the announcement of an additional contract in Europe.

The company said yesterday that WiMAX Telecom AG, the first pan European WiMAX carrier, had again selected its BreezeMAX 3500 for expanding its WiMAX networks in Austria and Slovakia. The size of the contract was not disclosed although market sources estimate it to be worth a few million dollars.

Last year WiMAX Telecom built its first WiMAX network with Alvarion's BreezeMAX after it acquired a nationwide 3.5 GHz license. It now plans to deploy more than 10,000 additional BreezeMAX PRO CPEs by the end of 2006.

Alvarion president and CEO Tzvika Friedman said, “WiMAX Telecom is part of a new breed of 'innovative challenger' carriers who are leveraging the advanced technological and economic benefits of WiMAX to build broadband networks quickly and cost effectively. We are pleased with their success using BreezeMAX to offer broadband data and toll quality voice services to their subscribers. Our continuing innovation and leadership in WiMAX worldwide, coupled with the network building activities of forward thinking carriers such as WiMAX Telecom, means that the mass availability of broadband services and personal broadband services is fast approaching."

Alvarion managed to reach break-even in the second quarter, posting revenue of $50.5 million, and a pro-forma net loss of $242,000 (excluding amortization). Alvarion currently has a market cap of $415, after rising 19% since the publication of its report at the beginning of the month.
