The economic recovery has influenced salary levels in industry. 40% of industrial companies, both high-tech and low technology, raised salaries this year, according to the Manufacturers Association of Israel salary survey for 2006, published today.

Conducted by Pilat, the survey covered dozens of companies, which provided salary data on over 12,000 employees in 150 different positions. The respondents reported a nominal 3.9% increase in salaries in 2006, following a 4.3% rise in 2005.

The survey found that 78% of industrial companies cover car expenses for at least some employees. The car-expense payment at 67% of these companies is based on mileage, 48% pay expenses on the basis of employee rank, and 14% provide a uniform expense payment for all employees.

The survey also examined pay grades at companies. The average monthly salary of a procurement manager is NIS 18,260, and NIS 22,583 including car expenses (this salary figure includes variable items, including the benefit value of a company car). The average salary of an auditor is NIS 17,011, and NIS 21,097 including car expenses. The average salary of a logistics manager is NIS 15,659, and NIS 20,134 including car expenses.

Following this year’s minimum wage hike, the average monthly salary of a production employee was NIS 6,284, and NIS 8,313 for a skilled worker. The average salary of a machinery engineer is NIS 13,781, and NIS 15,733 including car expenses. The average salary of a technician is NIS 6,326, and the average salary of a forklift operator is NIS 6,206.

81% of companies pay bonuses; 86% of these companies pay a bonus on an annual basis. The average bonus planned for 2006, assuming the company meets its targets, is NIS 1.5 monthly salaries for a top executive, 1.1 monthly salaries for middle managers, and one monthly salary for other employees.
