Electric car venture picks 2 Israeli cos

Project Better Place Israel CEO Moshe Kapliski: Hundreds of recharging stations are planned for installation during 2009.

Shai Agassi's electric car venture Project Better Place and investor Israel Corp. (TASE: ILCO) have picked two Israeli companies to develop and install car recharging stations in Israel: Aran Research and Development Ltd. and Nekuda DM Ltd. Project Better Place's engineering and marketing teams have formulated the design, safety, engineering, and operational features of the recharging stations.

Aran R&D and Nekuda DM are industrial engineering design companies with experience in product development and electromechanical design. The company and Eran Engineering will have to build a product that complies with international standards and global needs. The car recharging infrastructure will involve 500,000 recharging points to be built across the country in the coming years.

Project Better Place Israel CEO Moshe Kapliski said, "Testing of the charging points will begin this year, and hundreds of stations are planned for installation during 2009. The companies that were chosen to lead the production of the charging points were required to demonstrate experience and proven capability in development and production of unique products. We are facing a great challenge, and I believe that the end product will be user-friendly and will encourage the use of electric cars among the general public."

Project Better Place has also hired New Deal Design to formulate the design concept for the recharging stations and peripheral products.
