Renault Nissan in 10-year electric car deal with Israel - report

Nissan is currently developing a range of emission-free electric cars.

UK car consumer car guide What Car? reports that Nissan Motor Co. Ltd (TSE: 7201) has signed an agreement with the Israeli government, giving it exclusive rights to sell electric cars for 10 years.

Nissan is currently developing a range of emission-free electric cars, in partnership with Renault, as part of the project announced in January by company CEO Carlos Ghosn at the launch of the electric car venture of Israel Corp. (TASE: ILCO) and Project Better Place CEO Shay Agassi. Both Project Better Place and Nissan Carasso in Israel denied the report.

The report follows Nissan's "Nissan 360" exhibition held last week in Cascais, Portugal. Company officials at the event revealed that Los Angeles that the first cars will go on sale in Los Angeles. They added that the company is now looking for large cities worldwide in which to conduct feasibility studies starting from 2010. Among the cities that could host the trials are London and New York.
