Israel National Roads Company Ltd. is moving forward with the building of a nationwide traffic control system. Sources inform ''Globes'' that National Roads Company last week published a tender worth NIS 100 million for the building of infrastructure for nationwide traffic control system, to be completed within two years from the commencement of work on the project.
The tender issued is the first stage out of three in a project to build a nationwide traffic control and management system which, when complete, will control 500 kilometers of intercity roads. The project is worth a total of NIS 400 million.
The tender published last week will cover the building of infrastructure along 126 kilometers of road at the following locations : Road 2 (coastal highway) between the Poleg and Glilot interchanges; Road 1 (Tel Aviv-Jerusalem Highway) between the Kibbutz Galuyot and Shaar Hagay interchanges and then to Sacharov Gardens at the entrance to Jerusalem; Road 4 (Geha) between the Raa'nana Junction and the Holot interchange; Road 5 between the Glilot West interchange to Rosh Ha'ayin, and Road 44 from the Beit Dagan junction to the Hashiva interchange.
The traffic control and management system will consist of a control center; control center software developed by Canadian transportation consulting firm IBI Group; traffic control devices such as motion detectors, cameras, traffic control signs, variable message signs, and communications systems connecting sites with the control center.
