Nokia Siemens to layoff 100 in Israel

Nokia Siemens: We are committed to the Israeli R&D center for switches for telecommunications operators.

Nokia Siemens Networks said today that it will fire 100 employees at its R&D center in Hod Hasharon. The company said that the measure is aimed at stabilizing its switches product line in the long term.

Just a month ago, in response to a query from "Globes" about possible layoffs, Nokia Siemens that it did not respond to rumors.

The line of switches for telecommunications operators is part of the Nokia Siemens Broadband Connectivity Solutions (BCS) unit. This unit plans to adjust its products offering to changing customer demand worldwide and to meet the challenges of a competitive market. The plans include layoffs at its R&D center.

Nokia Siemens said that it was committed to its Israeli R&D center for switches for telecommunications operators. The layoffs will not affect the company's sales and customer technical support units in Israel. Nokia Siemens is a leading supplier in Israel of communications equipment for large telecommunications operators, including Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) and Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR).
