Cabinet appoints Yehuda Weinstein as next AG

The vote was unanimous.

The cabinet today unanimously voted to appoint Yehuda Weinstein as the next Attorney General. Weinstein was nominated by Minister of Justice Yaakov Neeman.

Weinstein will take over from Menachem (Meni) Mazuz, whose term expires in January 2010.

Weinstein, 65, is one of Israel's top criminal lawyers, specializing in white-collar crime. He is a highly esteemed attorney, who has frequently been hired by public figures to defend them from criminal charges and indictments. Last year, he joined the defense team of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in the Rishontours and Talansky affairs.
