Tourist exits by Israelis down 0.8% in 2003

Tourist exits by Israelis by air fell by 4.9% to 2.689 million.

3.299 million tourist exits were made by Israelis in 2003, a negligible 0.8% increase compared with 2002, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today.

Tourist exits by Israelis fell by 8% in 2002. The stability in overseas trips by Israelis last year was mainly due to a 43% jump in trips by Israelis to Egypt and Jordan to 538,700. The number of Israelis traveling overland to land jumped by 114% to 320,300 in 2003, from 150,00 in 2002. However, the number of Israeli traveling to Jordan declined by 3.2% to 218,000 from 225,700 in 2002.

The number of Israelis passing through the Allenby border crossing to Jordan declined by 10% to 53,700, and the number of Israelis passing through the Jordan River crossing declined by 2.5% to 155,900.
