Pay cut for new railway head

Ofer Linchevski will earn NIS 36,000 a month, which is less than he gets at Egged.

“Israel Railways is one of the entities with the greatest potential in the Israeli economy. Israel Railways enjoys enormous backing from the government, and I hope I’ll be able to move it forward in developing its service, improving its profitability, and diversifying its revenue sources. I welcome the trust given me by the board of directors. Being general manager of Israel Railways is a huge challenge,” Ofer Linchevski, who was appointed general manager of Israel Railways, yesterday told "Globes".

Linchevski, currently CFO of the Egged bus cooperative and CEO of Egged subsidiary Egged Holdings, will take up his new position within a few weeks, probably at the beginning of September.

Linchevski, 37, is a university graduate in economics and law. He was Ministry of Finance budget division official in charge of infrastructure for seven years. Among other things, he was involved in large infrastructure projects, such as the Carmel Tunnels, the light railways, Yitzhak Rabin Highway (Highway No. 6), also known as the “Cross Israel Highway”, and reform in public transportation.

Linchevski will earn NIS 36,000 a month as Israel Railways general manager, which is less than his salary at Egged. He told "Globes" that money was not a consideration for him. “It’s true I earned more money at Egged, but the great challenge of the job is what attracted me and interested, and that’s why I competed for the job,” he explained.
