Manpower Israel: Oct demand for IT workers down 9.5%

MIT CEO Irit Padan: These figures should not lead to the conclusion that the trend in demand for workers has changed.

Manpower Israel subsidiary Manpower Information Technologies (MIT) reports a 9.5% drop in demand for high-tech workers in October 2005, compared with September. However, demand was 7.2% higher, compared with October 2004. The figures are based on surveys of help-wanted ads (pages and columns inches) in Israel’s leading daily newspapers.

A breakdown of the figures indicates that demand for high-tech workers in January-October 2005 was 19.9% higher than during the corresponding period of last year.

MIT CEO Irit Padan said the fall in demand for high-tech workers in October, compared with September was technical, because the Jewish High Holy days meant there were few working days in October. Many businesses consequently postponed publishing help-wanted ads during the month, regardless of their need for workers. She said, “These figures should not lead to the conclusion that the trend in demand for workers has changed. A comparison of figures with the corresponding period shows no change in trend.”
