Israel, NY State to collaborate on nanotech

The plan is to expose Israeli nanotechnology companies at two large conferences in New York.

In the first collaborative nanotechnology initiative between New York State and Israel, US and Israeli companies want to expose Israeli nanotechnology companies to sources of funding, research, and applications in the US at two large conferences to be held in New York.

“The US and Israel are the world’s two main centers of nanotechnology,” America-Israel Chamber of Commerce New York executive VP Ronny Bassan told “Globes”. “Exposing Israeli companies to New York’s nanotechnology research and applications arena will be mutually beneficial, will likely promote joint ventures and help implement commercial applications of developments by Israeli economies.”

Israel currently has about 30 nanotechnology start-ups and 15 older companies, in which $76 million has been invested altogether. Israel seven leading universities and research institutes have nanotechnology centers. Activity is particularly strong in nano-biotechnology and nano-electronics.

Albany NanoTech will host a US-Israel nanotechnology conference on May15-17. The New York State Department of Economic Development, the America-Israel Chamber of Commerce, and the Israeli commercial representative in New York are sponsoring the conference, the first meeting of its kind by the US and Israeli nanotechnology communities.

Immediately afterwards, NanoBusiness 2006 conference will be held on May 18-19 in New York City. At this conference, Israeli companies will present projects to venture capitalists and other sources of financing.
