Netanyahu: They vilified me, but I created growth

Likud chair Benjamin Netanyahu: Everyone's taking credit for my economic policies.

Likud chairman MK Benjamin Netanyahu accuses politicians and journalists of collaborating to vilify him and blacken his reputation, even though they knew the truth that his economic doctrine was right.

In an interview with IDF Radio (Galei Zahal) this morning, Netanyahu said, “I was targeted because I opposed the disengagement plan. They made political capital out of me and my policies. For months, they presented me as an evil man. Those who viciously and venomously attacked my economic policies are now standing up and taking credit and praise for them.

“the public apparently bought into the slander, because they didn’t believe that everything I what I foretold would come to pass.

“This growth fills the state’s coffers and enables to us to help the poor. When I received the state, there was no money. We created this growth.”

Netanyahu took credit for the expected high growth rate for the first quarter published yesterday. ‘We said these policies of cutting taxes, and switching from welfare to work would enable the economy to grow at an unprecedented rate, and that’s exactly what happened.

“The budget I prepared has money for the elderly, medicines, children, hot lunches, and subsidizing daycare. These things help the poor, and come directly from this growth.”

Netanyahu called on Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to speak out clearly and unequivocally against Iran’s nuclear weapons program during his visit to Washington.
