Metalink teams with Daewoo on HD video streaming

Metalink has cooperation agreements with China’s Haier Electronics, Korea’s LG Electronics, Japan’s Renesas, and Dutch Philips.

Metalink Ltd. (Nasdaq: MTLK;TASE: MTLK) is continuing to consolidate its collaboration with leading home entertainment products manufacturers. The maker of wireless and wireline broadband telecommunications processors today announced an agreement with South Korea’s Daewoo Electronics to incorporate Metalink's WLANPlus chipset into Daewoo's next-generation set-top box. The size of the deal was not disclosed.

Metalink has similar cooperation agreements with China’s Haier Electronics Group Co. Ltd. (HKSE:1169), Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. (KSX:0066570), Japan’s Renesas Technology Corp., and Dutch Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG; AEX: PHI).

Metalink’s WLANPlus chipsets are designed for the consumer electronics market by supporting the 802.11n standard for high-definition video streaming throughout the home. Daewoo Electronics new set-top box with the Metalink chipset delivers wireless multiple high-definition video streams and will be presented for the first time at the IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin in early September.

Metalink VP corporate development David Pereg said, “We are proud to work together with Daewoo Electronics, a world leader in consumer electronics. The integration of our WLANPlus chip-set into Daewoo's set-top box will allow consumers to experience true high-definition video quality on multiple TVs throughout the home, wirelessly. Our collaboration with Daewoo Electronics is yet another indication that Metalink is positioned to become a leading provider of silicon solutions for next-generation home entertainment wireless networks."

Metalink, run by chairman and CEO Tzvika Shukhman, has a market cap of $110 million. The company posted a net loss of $4.3 million on $3.5 million revenue for the second quarter of 2006.
