National health spending totals NIS 47b

Israel’s proportion of spending on health is the same as in Hungary and the UK, but less than the proportion in 19 OECD countries.

Israel spent NIS 47 billion on health in 2007, amounting to 8.1% of GDP, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. In contrast, Israel spent 8.3-8.6% of GDP a year on health in 2001-04.

Israel’s proportion of spending on health is the same as in Hungary and the UK, but less than the proportion in 19 OECD countries. In terms of purchasing power parity, Israel spent $2,013 per capita on health in 2004, the same amount as New Zealand and Spain. The US spent $5,711 per capita on health. Per capita spending on health was higher in 16 OECD countries than in Israel.
