Sources inform ''Globes'' that EMC Corp. (NYSE:EMC) has won a three-year IDF contract for storage systems. The contract, reportedly worth $30 million, is considered the largest storage systems contract in Israel.
The IDF published the storage systems tender much earlier this year, but became particularly relevant with the war in Lebanon. In recent weeks, the IDF has reportedly been making an intense effort to expand its computer capacity. Last week, outgoing IDF C4I Branch head Maj.-Gen. Udi Shani stated explicitly, “We haven’t yet implemented the disaster recovery planning (DRP) concept at our information centers. This is one mission still before us.”
Procuring storage solutions will undoubtedly help the IDF’s DRP deployment. DRP solutions usually include both data back-up and data recovery systems. The difference between ordinary storage solutions and DRP solutions include back-up storage systems, data duplication and synchronization software, and communications between data and memory centers. In the aftermath of the Lebanon war, the IDF will probably shortly publish more tenders for back-up systems or it might speed up its procurement of EMC systems.
