Government to discuss El Al's ending of flights to Cairo

El Al's justification of the decision was that security costs were too high.

Ministry of Transport director general Gideon Siterman will hold discussions with Raanan Dinur, the director general of the Prime Minister's Office, concerning El Al Israel Airlines (TASE: ELAL)'s decision to halt flights to Cairo. He said that this is a unilateral decision, and that he considers the continued operation of the line to be of great importance.

El Al's justification of the decision was that security costs were too high, and did not allow the company to continue to operate the flights.

Siterman also sent a letter to El Al CEO Haim Romano, expressing his dissatisfaction at the decision. He said in the letter that operating the Cairo line meant fulfilling Israel's right to fly the route, and the decision to stop the flights should have been made following consultation with the government.

Transport Ministry sources said that Siterman expects El Al to reconsider its decision and restore the flights.
