Researchers unveil new artificial intelligence system

The system will enable the storage of encyclopedic knowledge on computers.

Researchers at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology have developed a method for inputting encyclopedic knowledge to computers in a manner that will enable the machine to simulate human logic in its responses.

The new method will help computers filter email spam, perform web searches as well as carrying out electronic intelligence gathering at a more sophisticated level than current programs. Technion researchers Evgeniy Gabrilovich and Shaul Markovitch will present the method next week at the Twentieth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Hyderabad, India.

The software developed by the Technion researchers helps computers map single words and larger fragments of text from the Wikipedia data base, whose entries are written and updated by surfers.
