Granite Hacarmel to build Chinese water purification plant

The facility in Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia will cost $5 million.

Granite Hacarmel Investments Ltd. (TASE: GRNT) and Barak Capital Ltd. joint venture, Global Environmental Solutions Ltd. (GES), will build a water purification facility in Xilinhot in Inner Mongolia, China. The $5 million facility will treat six million cubic meters of sewage a year, 20,000 cubic meters a day, and recycle the water for industrial use. The facility will also use iron and manganese to purify nine million cubic meters of polluted water a year for drinking. Construction of the facility will be completed by September.

The project was approved as part of the financial protocols between the Israeli and Chinese governments aimed at promoting bilateral trade by granting easy loans to Chinese industrial customers of Israeli companies.

China’s news agency “Xinhua” recently reported that 27% of the water of the Yangtze River, the country’s largest, was polluted. In 2005, severe industrial pollution of Songhua River left the nine million residents of Harbin, in northern China, without water.
