Google exposure passes 80% among Israelis

Tapuz’s portal rose to sixth place, with an exposure rate of 27.1%.

The hot trend of video file shares has reached the TNS Telesker Internet Monitor (TIM) survey. The December 2006-January 2007 survey ranks Flix, the video sharing site of Tapuz People Ltd. (TASE:TPUZ), launched on the eve of the second Lebanon war in July 2006, as the 18th most popular website in Israel, with an exposure rate of 9.7%. A study of advanced Internet use found that 38% of surfers watch video clips uploaded onto the net.

Tapuz’s portal rose to sixth place, with an exposure rate of 27.1%, well above its rank in the previous TIM survey in July 2006. Tapuz surpassed “Ma’ariv’s” NRG portal, which fell to seventh place, with the same exposure rating as in the previous survey of 23.4%.

In general, the latest survey shows no upheavals. Israel’s top three websites maintained their positions, with Google Israel growing even stronger and surpassing the 80% exposure rate. The popular search engine had an exposure rate of 82.7%, higher than in July. The exposure rate of Walla Communications Ltd. (TASE: WALA) rose slightly to 70.1%. Third ranking site, news site Ynet has an exposure rate of 55.2%, down from 56.2% in July.

The three sites with the greatest increase in exposure rates compared with the previous survey were Golden Pages reached an exposure rate of 15.1%; Yad2 (second hand) reached an exposure rate of 12.4%; and Tapuz.

Websites of the Haaretz Group have corrected the plunge in exposure rates seen in the previous survey. The exposure rate for Haaretz rose to 12%, and the exposure rate for TheMarker rose to 10.5%.

The exposure rate for “Globes” corrected downwards slightly from the previous survey to 9.5%.

A study of Internet uses found that 53% of surfers use Instant Messenger, ICQ and other instant messaging programs, with the proportion rising as age falls: 79% of surfers aged 13-17 use instant messaging, compared with 49% of adult surfers.

The latest TIM survey was conducted between December 20, 2006 and January 11, 2007, among 1,165 Israeli Jewish Internet users aged 13 and above. The survey is an online survey by the TNS Internet access panel, representing Israeli surfers aged 13 and up. The survey uses the recall method, in which each respondent in the access panel is asked to state if and when was the last time he or she each of the websites included in the survey. The data represent the proportion of respondents who said they visited the websites at least once during the week of the survey.

Israel now has 3.9 million Internet users aged 13 and up, amounting to 72% of this age group and 55% of the total population.

The sample error is 1.7-2.9%, so that some of the data falls within the range of error.
