Proportion of women CEOs in Israel double that of US

BDI: 4.3% of CEOs of Israel’s top 500 companies were women in 2006, up from 3.4% in 2005.

Israel has double the proportion of women CEOs than the US, relative to the size of the population, says Business Data Israel (BDI). The average CEO in Israel’s top 500 companies is 50, married with three children, resides in the center of the country, and has an MA in Economics or MBA.

4.3% of CEOs of Israel’s top 500 companies were women in 2006, up from 3.4% in 2005. They include Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) CEO Galia Maor, Ormat Industries Ltd. (TASE: ORMT) CEO Judith Bronicki, Medinol Ltd. CEO Dr. Judith Richter, Ocif Investments and Development Ltd. (TASE: OCIF) CEO Dafna Harlev, and First International Bank of Israel (TASE: FTIN1;FTIN5) CEO Smadar Zadik-Barber, who is replacing David Granot.

In comparison, women headed 2% of Fortune 500 companies in the US in 2006.
