Official's widow blames Bank of Israel workers for his death

Leah Berkovitch: Heavy pressure by the Bank of Israel workers committee was a major reason for Ozer Berkovitch’s sudden death.

“IDF Radio” (Galei Zahal) reports that Leah Berkovitch, the widow of former Ministry of Finance Director of Wages Ozer Berkovitch accuses Bank of Israel employees of partial responsibility for his death. Berkovitch died at his post of a heart attack a year ago.

Leah Berkovitch sent a letter to the National Insurance Institute in which she accuses the heads of the Bank of Israel workers committee of applying heavy pressure on her husband, and that this pressure was a major reason for his sudden death.

Ozer Berkovitch died after a lengthy and stormy meeting with Bank of Israel employees about their job terms. After his death, the Bank of Israel employees claimed that they had reached a final deal with him just before his collapse, and that the Ministry of Finance subsequently retracted the understandings.

Both Leah Berkovitch and the Bank of Israel declined to comment on the report.
