El Al launches home preflight service

Staff will carry out security checks and baggage check-in at passengers' homes for $50.

El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) has launched a new home preflight check in service, the first of its kind in worldwide. It is designed to save passengers waiting in airport queues for security staff to check their baggage, or at the airline's check-in desks for their boarding cards. Home Check In Ltd. is providing the service for the airline

Under the new home preflight check in service, passengers will be able to have their baggage inspected by security staff and checked in at their homes or offices, six to 24 hours prior to their flight. Ground staff and baggage security inspectors will visit an address given by a passenger and carry out the inspection on the spot. They will then issue the passenger with his boarding card, weigh his baggage and take it back with them to the airport. They will also collect any surcharges in the event of excess baggage weight. The passenger will then be able to proceed directly to passport control on the day of his flight with his hand luggage only.

The service will cost $49 for a group of up to four passengers, and an additional $5 for every extra passenger, payable by credit card when booking the service. Organized groups of six passengers and upwards will be charged at a rate of $15 per passenger.

Passengers can book the service by calling *2678, 24 hours a day. El Al said that the service would be offered initially in central Israel between Netanya and Gedera, and in Jerusalem.
