HP Israel wins Pele-Phone contract

The company will supply a home location registration system for Pele-Phone's new 3.75G network.

HP Israel Ltd. has won a tender from Pele-Phone Communications Ltd. to supply a home location registration (HLR) system for Pele-Phone's new 3.75G GSM/UMTS network. The companies did not disclose details about the deal, but sources inform ''Globes'' that HP Israel beat Motorola Inc. (NYSE:MOT), Nokia (NYSE; LSE; HEX:NOK), and Ericsson (NYSE; SAX:ERIC) in the tender, and that the contract is worth $4.5 million.

HLR is a critical component in the cellular network, responsible for proper functioning of subscribers and their features. The technology infrastructure upgrade will give Pele-Phone a edge in the market as well as providing a service similar to the company's CDMA network subscribers.

Pele-Phone selected HP's solution because of its high performance, reliability, and availability. HP's HLR solution has already been installed at 30 cellular operators worldwide.
