Diamond exports reach record level

The US remains the primary export market.

Exports of polished diamonds reached a record $12 billion in 2007, said Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor controller of diamonds Shmuel Mordechai today. Exports of polished diamonds, net of returns, rose 7% to $7.07 billion, from $6.61 billion in 2006. Exports of rough diamonds, net of returns, rose 25.6% to $3.38 billion, from $2.69 billion in 2006.

The US continues to be the primary market for Israeli diamonds, accounting for 53% of exports. Hong Kong accounted for 19%, Belgium - 8%, Switzerland - 5%, and India - 2%.
