Mazor product wins CE Mark approval

The company's flagship product has already been sold to customers in the US and Europe.

Medical device company Mazor Surgical Technologies Ltd. (TASE:MZOR) has received CE Mark Certification for its DiscAssist guidance and positioning system for disc replacement surgery. Mazor CEO Uri Hadomi said that the company would be filing for US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for the system and that it could receive this by the end of 2008.

The DiscAssist is designed to assist doctors performing interverteberal disc replacement surgery, to plan the appropriate size, and placement of artificial discs. The program is based on algorithms which use X-ray imaging to help the surgeon navigate to the correct location for the implant based on the results of a CT scan of the damaged area.

Mazor first developed its method for CT scan and surgical imaging integration in its flagship product, the SpineAssist, which is used to position spinal vertebrae during surgery instead of screws. The SpineAssist has already been sold to customers in Europe and the US.
