IEC wants to bid on Negev solar plant

IEC wants to be a sub-contractor, providing planning, management, and construction services.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) is seeking to participate in the tender for the construction and operation of the solar power plant to be built at Ashelim in the Negev. IEC wants to be a sub-contractor, providing planning, management, and construction services for one of the consortia that will participate in the tender.

IEC has begun negotiations to this end with Solel Solar Systems Ltd., considered a top probably contender in the $600-700 million tender. The 250 megawatt power station is due to supply 3% of Israel's electricity needs.

The joint tender committee of the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of National Infrastructures is due to publish the pre-qualification tender for the Ashelim power station next week. The publication will be accompanied by announcements in the Israeli and international press in order to attract international investors.
