Sources inform ''Globes'' that Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) will nearly double its purchases of natural gas to NIS 2.15 billion in 2008 from NIS 1.1 billion in 2007, following the commencement of supplies to the company by Egypt's East Mediterranean Gas Co. (EMG) in which Joseph (Yossi) Maiman is a partner.
Figures obtained by "Globes" reveal that IEC is due to purchase a total of 4.6-4.7 billion cubic meters of gas (3.3 million tons), from EMG and Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) subsidiary Yam Tethys Ltd. The figures show that IEC paid an average $2.70 per British Thermal Unit in 2007.
