Al Gore to address Tel Aviv University energy conference

Former US Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Al Gore will deliver the opening address at the Tel Aviv University's Renewable Energy and Beyond conference on May 20-21. Gore will also be awarded the 2008 Dan David Prize for his social commitment to environmental protection and the prevention of a global ecological disaster.

Tel Aviv University is organizing the first international conference on Renewable Energy and Beyond, which will cover technological, economic, political and others aspects relating to the switch to renewable energies as a substitute for oil and coal.

Israel President Shimon Peres and other Israeli leaders will also attend. Speakers will include US Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency Alexander Karsner, Inter-American Development Bank president Luis Alberto Moreno, Brazilian Foundation for Sustainable Development president Dr. Israel Klabin, and General Electric VP advanced technologies Dr. Michael Idelchik.

Tel Aviv University president Prof. Zvi Galil said, "Tel Aviv University has become a leading academic institution on environmental issues. The conference organizers were able to bring together the topmost researchers and a series of prominent policy-making elements for a landmark international gathering which will help to increase awareness on renewable energy issues in this country and throughout the world."
