Chinese officials propose $13b in projects for Israeli industry

Harbin city officials met Delek Group controlling chairman Yitzhak Tshuva and Elbit Medical Imaging chairman Mordechai Zisser.

Harbin City Communist Party Secretary Du Yuxin has proposed projects worth $13 billion to Israeli developers. Yuxin is visiting Israel, and met Prime Minister Ehud Olmert yesterday. Yuxin is heading a delegation of eight senior regional government officials and 32 businessmen. Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province in northeast China, is the country's tenth largest city with a population of ten million.

Yuxin today made a helicopter tour with Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) controlling chairman Yitzhak Tshuva of the company's Ashkelon desalination facility. Yuxin also met Elbit Medical Imaging Ltd. (Nasdaq: EMITF; TASE: EMIT) chairman Mordechai Zisser.

One proposed project is the construction of a $1 billion ring road around Harbin. Other projects are in real estate, energy, and agriculture.

Olmert has personal ties with Harbin. His grandfather escaped with his family to the city from the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, and is buried there.
