Boeing picks Elbit Systems for US Navy training project

Elbit Systems will supply the T-45 Goshawk Virtual Mission Training System.

Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) has selected Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) as the supplier for the US Navy’s T-45 Goshawk Virtual Mission Training System (VMTS).

The company did not disclose the size of the deal.

The announcement comes one day after Elbit Systems completed its acquisition of Tadiran Communications.

The T-45 will replace aging T-39s as a key element in the US Navy's Undergraduate Military Flight Officer (UMFO) training modernization plan. The T-45 will provide realistic training at a lower cost in a fighter-like environment.

VMTS allows a T-45 aircraft to simulate the use of radar and weapons against virtual aircraft while in flight as well as cooperate with other real and virtual aircraft. The system enables high-quality training in a safe and measurable way.

In a separate development, Elbit Systems yesterday completed the merger of Tadiran Communications Ltd. Elbit Systems has assumed all of Tadiran Communications' assets and liabilities and it no longer exists as a legal entity. The merger is part of Elbit Systems' restructuring that includes a merger and a vertical splitting of Elbit Systems' Land Systems and C4I Division and Tadiran Communications into a wholly-owned, Elbit Systems Land and C4I - Tadiran Ltd. Tadiran Communications' former US subsidiaries have become a part of the Elbit Systems of America.
