74% of Israelis approve Olmert's decision to quit

The figure is 50% for Kadima voters.

The majority of the Israeli public welcomes Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's resignation. A survey by Heker Rating Marketing Research Ltd. on behalf of "Globes" immediately after last night's announcement found that 44% of respondents were very pleased by the announcement and 30% were pleased. Only 18% were displeased.

The survey found that 32% of respondents who plan to vote for Kadima in the next elections were pleased by Olmert's decision and 12% were very pleased. 21% of Kadima voters were very displeased by the decision and 23% were displeased.

Among Likud voters, 54% were very pleased by Olmert's decision and a further 14% were pleased, while 18% were displeased and 7% were very displeased.

Labor Party voters were the most pleased by Olmert's decision. 31% were very pleased by the decision and a further 38% were pleased, for 79% altogether. Only 4% were very displeased by the decision and a 10% were displeased.

The survey was conducted among 502 respondents. It found that more men than women were pleased by Olmert's decision - 79% of men compared with 70% of women. 76% of people aged over 30 were pleased by the decision, compared with 68% of people aged 18-29.
