"Israel Today" pushes ahead with expansion

The freesheet will launch a Friday edition after the upcoming Jewish holidays.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that "Israel Today" will launch a Friday edition beginning in October after the upcoming Jewish holidays. Sheldon Adelson's freesheet is moving up the schedule set in its original expansion timetable.

The sources added that "Israel Today's" Friday edition will have double the 40-48 pages of the weekday edition (the exact number depends on the number of advertisements). The Friday edition will reportedly have three sections: the daily news, a weekend supplement, and a political supplement.

It is not yet clear how the Friday edition will be distributed or how many copies will be printed. Part of the weekday edition is distributed at workplaces, many of which are closed on Friday, which suggests that the Friday distribution system will be different.

Since the launch of "Israel Today" a year ago, it has won over a regular group of core readers thanks to the distribution agreement with Hebrew daily "Haaretz". "Israel Today" also offers readers the option of registering for home delivery in areas where there is no dense distribution.

"Israel Today" confirmed that it plans to launch a Friday edition, but declined to comment about the other details of the report.

"Israel Today" currently publishes 255,000 copies a day.
