Google Israel launches Hebrew Gmail

The new version is faster and enables Gmail chat and switching languages.

From this morning, Gmail users in Israel can use an officially converted version of their popular mail program. Google has launched a Hebrew version with a number of capabilities that until now existed only in the company's foreign language versions. Users will be able, among other things, to find Gmail chat Google's immediate messenger service, available for the first time in Hebrew.

As part of the launch Gmail has added the possibility of writing from right to left or left to right in every language, thus making it easier to switch from language to language, or compose mails combining two languages (for example English and Hebrew) conveniently and legibly.

Google's new Gmail version is also characterized by its high-speed. Noam Ben Haim, Product Manager Google Israel, says, "We have users in many languages worldwide but it is clear that users prefer to use Google in their own language. From this point of view Google already decided more than a year ago to release Google products in 40 languages and the intention is to release versions in other languages at the same time as the English.

"Gmail's Hebrew version closes the gap vis-a-vis the English version and brings almost all the features from the English version into the Hebrew one," he adds.
