Haim Saban to host 20 Israeli start-ups

Israeli start-ups will make fast pitch presentations to Disney, Universal Studios, Facebook, MTV, and other companies.

Haim Saban plans to host his third delegation of 15-20 Israeli media, communications, and Internet start-ups this year, with the goal of enabling them to present their wares to US companies and venture capital funds. This year, Saban's media investment arm, Saban Capital Group Inc., is apparently also seeking investment opportunities.

The participating Israeli start-ups will make presentations to US media companies such as Universal Studios, Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS), Univision Communications Inc. (Mexico: UVN), Facebook, and MTV. The presentations will take the form of fast pitch.

Six weeks ago, Saban Capital managing director Craig Cooper, who is responsible for digital media, consumer Internet, and mobile, visited Israel to seek investment opportunities. He said that the company was planning to make early-stage investments of $100,000-500,000 in start-ups. He noted that the company mainly sought start-ups in Silicon Valley, but that it would exploit its connections to Israel to seek opportunities there too.

Saban Capital chairman and CEO Haim Saban said, "We're pleased to host this year's delegation and we hope that our involvement will help foster Israeli entrepreneurs in the coming years. Our investment focus strongly emphasizes innovative companies, and we continue to see important innovations coming from Israel."
