Hapoalim CEO apologizes for computer crash

The bank will give customers a full exemption from fees on transactions carried out yesterday and today.

Bank Hapoalim (LSE: 80OA; TASE: POLI) CEO Zvi Ziv has written a letter to customers following the general computer failure the bank experienced yesterday.

"During the course of data processing yesterday morning, a rare fault was discovered in the central computer operating system," he wrote. "Upon discovering the fault, the bank's staff together with consultants from IBM immediately began working around the clock to restore the system to normal functioning as soon as possible, and to ensure customers' needs are dealt with promptly and to their full satisfaction."

Ziv added, "The fault was repaired overnight and the system will come back online today."

Ziv thanked the bank's employees for their efforts and also IBM teams worldwide for their efforts in helping resolve the fault. He apologized for the difficulties that customers have had in obtaining banking services. Bank Hapoalim will give customers a full exemption on fees on transactions carried out on the business days November 23 and 24.
