Medigus reports successful human clinical trials

The company's endoscopic system has produced favorable results at Indiana University Medical Center.

Medical device company Medigus Ltd. (TASE:MDGS) has reported favorable initial results in clinical human trials of its SRS endoscopic system for treating Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) by Prof. Glen Lehman of Indiana University Medical Center.

Prof. Lehman, who is one of the senior gastroenterologists in the US, conducted the trials between November 17-20, 2008, on three patients using the SRS system. In his report Prof. Lehman said that implementation of the endoscopic procedure had gone smoothly, and that he was most impressed by the technical implementation of the procedure, and the ability of the device to form an anti-reflux valve in a similar fashion to standard surgical procedures.

The report also notes that initial follow-up shows that all the patients who underwent the procedure are no longer taking drugs for heartburn, and have either no symptoms of heartburn whatsoever, or just minimal symptoms.

These clinical trials are part of human trials in many locations being conducted by Medigus, in order to obtain marketing approval in the US for its SRS system via the 510k abbreviated regulatory procedure.
